I saw one of those for sale at a CarMax not too long ago. Nice little car. My buddy has a 128i, and it's fun to drive compared to my wife's 328i.
I'd love to try out a 135is!

They are very very fun cars. One came in to my dealership with 500+ HP at the wheels, lots of carbon fiber, and meth, lots and lots of meth.
Also made racecar boost noises which is awesome.

You had me at meth... I mean 500 HP.
Yeah, the HP.
*Scratches face.* God, so itchy. Itchy all the time.

I'm really not sure why everyone who drools over the Toyobaru twins doesnt ever look at the 128i, specifically what the M Sport Package. You can find these things with ver low mileage for around 20k. They are a steal.

I hope you all are happy when I trade my BRZ for one. . .

Does your BRZ come with meth too?

Have you driven both back to back? How do they compare when you ignore the straight line acceleration?
Imo, comparing the 135i to the BRZ is like the E46 M3 to the E30 M3.

I've driven the FR-S and a 135i, but not back-to-back.
I think, all else being equal, the 135i feels a bit less "exciting," but in turn you get that overall BMW refinement that the FR-S lacks. Just my $.02. I'm a fan of BMW interiors, so that helps too.

1) remove power steering fuse (don't worry, it's a column mounted system, so you can mill something small in the shop to replace the unit later and make it truly a direct manual rack)
2) Get wooden steering wheel
3) Don driving gloves
4) Play Matt Monro
Coming from owning a VW (having owned and driven older Mercedes and BMWs), that's all the interior refinement I need, with that precise shifter, I would be so happy.

Cmon man, refinement doesnt matter? If that were the case, the WRX would be the best selling car on the planet

And now you know why the 86 appeals to a certain market ;)
There are people who love cars that are just built to do one thing well as best it can rather than trying to get a bit of everything.
I draw comparisons to my lugged frame road bike. When I first got it (and got off a mountain bike, it felt really fast, it really isn't that fast, I'm not the fastest of riders, but the downtube mounted shifter just clicks into place so precisely compared to the sloppy handlebar shifters on my MTB. The handlebar was solid, clean and uncluttered, It felt light and taut, "dense" would be a word to describe it. Everything that mattered is in a compact space and everything else that gets in the way is out of the way. I can throw it around, it's not small by any mean, but I can whip it between my thighs so I can step on it harder while the bike leans to the other side of my downstroke (to accelerate harder).
It looks beautiful (it's not the most aggressive looking bicycle) and it felt great to ride. It was utter shit when I hit anything but smoothly paved roads. I can still manage in gravel and sand, but I'd rather not go off the asphalt. It's something I look forward to playing with rather than having it be my transport. I use beater bicycles or just walk and bus it if I'm just getting from point A to B, I'm terrified to leave it locked up at school.
I only get on the saddle of my precious road bike when I am going to be going out for an adventure, no place in particular, just to fuck around and go see the sights.
That is what I want in a car at this moment. I bought an "appliance" (Passat TDI) the first go round, I want a car not to get around town (I live in a college town), but to look forward to getting in it, and to get excited about being a petrolhead again. But then again, I don't want a "classic" at the moment, since I don't have a workspace to overhaul an old 911, E30, or Alfa. The 86 is the next best thing.

Hah. I can see the appeal here. Not for me, but I'm glad you enjoy it, because we need folks like you having fun out there. :-)
